The first year with Experimental floral design

The school year is almost passed and the exam is drawing near. Here is a visual taste of what we have been up to during the sessions this year.

POP UP POP DOWN! (Session 1)

A gathering at Vea, where we worked on pop up-art. The students made lollipops that "popped up" here and there in the neighbourhood. A great way to get to know botanical materials, each other, the school and the surrounding area.

MOUNTAINOUS BRAINSTORMING (Session 2)

During this session, we visited Ringsakerfjellet (a local mountain region). We did some practical work and harvested materials in the forest. Each were given a clothes hanger and, after a quick brainstorm, made a locally produced piece of art with this hanger.

LIGHT AND EFFECTS (Session 3)

A gathering in Malmö. Light design, project organisation and management were the main focus. We tried out different light effects to create different moods and experiences. The gathering also included the Norwegian National Championship of floristry in Oslo.

DESIGN OR ART? (Session 4)

A gathering at Vea. The main focus was design and art concepts. We went on a excursion to look at different concepts in the local area. We used this, plus the inspiration form the championships, to create new ideas. During this session we worked on the difference between design and art. In addition, we had a decorating job for Nordek, where the students worked on project organisation.

BRRRRRR………!!!!! (Session 5)

A gathering at Vea. The theme was experimenting and idea/concept development – and the use of snow/ice. We visited the ice cathedral at Hunderfossen. A cold, playful and instructive process.

ON A HIKE, NEVER GRIPE! (Session 6)

This gathering was completed in Italy, more exactly Milan and San Remo.

Cues: practical work, demonstration, experiences, flower parade, botanical garden, flower auction, flower market, production of buttercups and papaver, and lots of art and culture.

Session 7 was used to sum up the school year and get our ideas into shape, see possibilities and get ready for the exam, which will be session 8.

The exam will conclude in an exhibition open to the audience. More on the exhibition here (in Norwegian):  Velkommen til utstilling!
